Whether for competition or concealed carry, a great gun needs a great holster.  Readers of ThruMyLens will know that for the last couple of weeks I’ve been testing the brand-new SIG P320 X-Five for use in 3-Gun and (eventually) USPSA.  The problem with being an early adopter of a brand-new-to-the-market firearm like the X-Five is the lack of holsters.  Fortunately, I happen to know Bill Martin of Defensive Training Solutions in Troy, Ohio who is a craftsman extraordinaire when it comes to custom kydex holsters – he’s been making them for years.  I let him know what I was looking for and he created this gorgeous holster for my X-Five:

“Two-tone” holsters are all the rage right now (have to be a fashionable gun-guy right?”) so I had him do the outer layer in black carbon fiber kydex, with a red kydex inner layer.  He also gave it a nice offset to make for an easier/quicker draw.  The screws you seen in the photos can be loosened or tightened to adjust the amount of retention – he plans on replacing those screws with adjustable thumb screws which will allow me to adjust the retention without using tools “on the fly” if needed.  I’ve already put about 1000 rounds through the X-Five using this holster and it has functioned flawlessly and certainly holding up well to all the repeated drawing and reholstering I’m doing.

Here’s a photo of the X-Five in the holster – fits like a glove!

I also recorded a video review of this custom kydex holster by Defensive Training Solutions:
