As many of my readers know, our family bought a Rottweiler puppy from a breeder a few weeks ago that we named Zeus.  This past weekend, the breeder invited to attend a dog show that was being held locally at the Gem City Dog Obedience Club called the UKC Mason Dixon Confirmation Show.  On a lark, we entered Zeus into the competition.

As it turns out, our breeder was well represented in the Rottweiler puppy division with four competing puppies all of which came from her – 2 male, and two female.  Zeus competed against his older half-brother (by 4 weeks) in the first round, and took the first place ribbon!  In the second round, Zeus narrowly lost out the championship ribbon to his half sister named Supra.  Here’s some photos from the show:

In this first photo, Christy (our breeder) is wearing a tan suit, and her associate has Zeus.  I know absolutely nothing about how to show a dog in a ring and thought it best to leave it to those with more experience.  🙂  The judge is wearing the yellow skirt:

In this photo, the dogs are being made to stand so the judge can check out their lines.  At this level of competition (puppies) they don’t expect too much from them – it’s a “confirmation” competition to see how well the dog conforms to standards for the breed:

They do run the dogs around the ring…it was just like on TV when I’ve I’ve watched the Westminster dog show!

I hope you enjoyed the photos!  With the exception of the last (iPhone) photo, all were taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark III, my Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens, and processed using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5, Adobe Photoshop CS6, and OnOne Software Perfect Photo Suite.  This was our first dog show and we enjoyed it very much – we might have to look into working more with Zeus and showing him again!
