Today in a complete surprise, Sony announced the RX1R III – a follow up to the RX1R II, last seen ten years ago.

The Sony RX1R III will be available this month for approximately $5,099.99.
Essentially what you’re looking at is a full frame Fujifilm X100VI with about 20 more megapixels…at just a bit more than 3x the cost.
The cost really does make it hard to justify. For less than 5K, you can buy a Canon R5 Mark II and a vintage FD 35mm f2. Yes, bigger and heavier than the Sony as well as the lens being manual focus only. But I can change lenses. And if you’re OK with 5k for a fixed lens camera, you’ll probably be fine with paying an extra 1k to get the prestige of the “red dot” on the Leica Q3. For about the same price you could also pick up the Fujifilm GFX100RF – not my choice but certainly an option.
