On Saturday September 7th, I drove down to the Norther Cincinnati suburb of Harrison to attend the Taste of Harrison festival, and the “Das Porsche Fest” that was held in conjunction with the local festival.  Das Porsche Fest was put together by the Ohio Valley Region Porsche Club of America.  The festival started at 3pm, which from a car photography perspective is less than idea.  It’s not quite as harsh has high noon, but not great.  I spent about two hours walking around the festival and snapping photos.  With the Taste Harrison festival in full swing there was plenty of food options which I took advantage of, as well as places open with bathrooms.  The weather was in the low 70’s which was fantastic walking around weather – great time.

I brought two cameras – my new FujiFilm X100VI and my new Canon R5 Mark II, the later of which never made it out of the bag.  I feel like after a couple of weekends and several hundred photos, I’m finally getting comfortable with the X100VI.  The last several car events I’ve photographed, I’ve used pretty shallow depth of field settings and done fairly stylize post photo edits.  So today I was in the mood to “play it straight.”  I don’t think I shot wider than F 2.8 for most of the day.  With the bright late afternoon sun, the built in ND filter on the FujiFilm X100VI came in super handy.  I brought along my K&F Concepts combo ND/CPL filter and I probably should have used it but I really wanted to try shooting with the camera’s internal ND filter.  In post I did little but correct for exposure and apply various FujiFilm film simulations which suited each photo and my taste.  The bright colors of the cars, as well as some of the rehabbed buildings in Harrison really popped with the X100VI.  Here are the photos:

The event was enjoyable.  I tend to prefer car events which are either earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon to get good light, but if this event is held again next year I’ll likely try to again attend.  Next weekend is the monthly Dayton Cars & Coffee so I’ll be itching to shoot with my Canon bodies.
