The July 4th holiday weekend has traditionally been a very special time in our house. Among other family activities we partake in in observance of the holiday, it’s also a time where where spend some extra time with our dogs…and I usually get some great photos.
I’ve been wanting to get a good photograph of my dog Zeus “stacked” – that’s dog show parlance for having the dog in a proper stance to be judged in a confirmation event. I was finally able to do just that over the holiday – the below photo is one of the best I have of Zeus. We’re so proud of him!
I also wanted to get a good photo which shows the incredible size differential there is between Zeus and his younger nephew Maximus (our other Rottweiler). In this photo, Zeus is 14 months old and about 120 lbs. His nephew Maximus is just 10 months old, and weighs closer to 125 lbs.
Here’s another photo of Karen doing a “touch” with Maximus:
He may look large and intimidating but you couldn’t ask for a more loving dog than Maximus:
He and Zeus are best buddies and love being together:
One of Zeus’s favorite playtime activities is to play “fetch” with a tennis ball:
Zeus has a high “prey drive” so he really goes after the ball when you throw it:
Sometimes Maximus tries taking the ball from Zeus…to little avail:
We’re very thankful that our Labs Hans and Lady are learning to play with the Rottweilers, and they with them:
Lady (our female Lab) and Zeus in particular enjoy playing with one another – both have very high drive.
But Hans and Lady have been playing together since they were tiny puppies and have a special affection for each other….and special games only they play with each other:
All tuckered out and enjoying a little rest:
I got some very funny photos of the dogs too….two of which I turned into “memes:”
I hope you enjoyed the photos – all were taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark III, my Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens, and processed using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5, Adobe Photoshop CS6, and OnOne Software Perfect Photo Suite. Leave me a comment below and let me know what you think!
