Stock Photo of the Maelstrom X7 From 4Sevens.com

I just received my new 4Sevens Maelstrom X7 and have been testing it (playing with it?) over the past couple of days.  Since my wife summarily confiscated my previous tactical flashlight of choice (the magnificent Fenix TK15) I’ve been wanting to pick up another to replace it.  I almost bought another Fenix TK15 – I absolutely love the push button user interface (UI) on the TK15.  But, I decided to check out 4Seven’s offerings, having become a big fan of the 4Sevens Preon 2 I purchased a few months ago.  On paper, the Maelstrom X7 looked like an even better choice for me.  Here are the specifications:

Dimensions

  • Length: 6.0 in
  • Body Diameter: 1.0 in
  • Head Diameter: 1.5 in
  • Weight (w/o batteries): 5.1 oz

Power Source

  • Power: (1) 18650 or (2) CR123A batteries (18650 button-top cells only – e.g., only our 2200mAh 18650 works)
  • Operating Range: 2.7V~12V

Typical Output and Runtimes

  • Moonlight: 0.3 lumens, 6 days
  • Low: 30 lumens, 21 hours
  • Medium: 270 lumens, 2.8 hours
  • High: 480 lumens, 1.3 hours
  • Strobe (10hz, 480 lumens): 2.5 hours
  • S.O.S.: 4.5 hours
  • Beacon: 12 hours

Moonlight mode of .3 lumens?  High output of 480 lumens?  Yes please.  🙂

I have to admit, I’m normally not a fan of a twist UI, but it’s implemented very well here on the Maelstrom X7.  For more on my thoughts on the Maelstrom X7, check out my video review:

Make sure to run the video in 1080, full-screen mode.  Also, stay tuned for a comparison review with the Maelstrom X7, and my much-loved Fenix TK15…provided I can get it away from my wife long enough to do the review.  🙂

Here’s a link to the Maelstrom X7 on Amazon – great price!
