OK, I’ll admit it – I’m taking up a “hipster hobby.”  Do I need to wear a beanie and grow a beard now that I’m getting into film photography?

All kidding aside, it’s high time I got around to running some film through my Canon AE-1.  I’ve had it for a couple of years now.  I bought it to use as a prop in the watch photography I do:

This past Summer, I acquired several fantastic vintage Canon FF lenses including the 50mm f1.8, the 35mm f2, and the 28mm f2.

Ironically these lenses were not purchased with the Canon AE-1 in mind.  Instead I purchased the lenses with the in intent of shooting them on my Canon RF camera bodies.

So why now?  What’s driving me to suddenly explore film photography?   Well fans of ThruMyLens know that this is something I’ve been moving toward trying film photography for over a year I’ve picked up several lenses including the past couple of years in hopes of trying to emulate the look of film photography in digital images.  I even picked up the FujiFilm X100VI with much the same goal.  So clearly I have an appreciation for the look of film photography.  So this month I decided to order a 4LR44 alkaline batter, a role of ISO 200 Kodak Gold film, and trying my hand a film photography.  Here’s a video I put up on the ThruMyLens YouTube channel where I disuses the topic in greater detail:
