Like many people, New York City holds a special place in my heart. No, I could never live there. And I won’t even go into the galactic gulf between my politics and those of the people in New York City. But for a photographer like myself, there’s no place better. in June, I traveled to New York for the first time in about 12 years to attend the 2025 B&H Bild Expo. If you read the article I published a few months ago about my plans to attend the expo, then you know I planned to bring and use a lot of different photography gear. That plan really went out the window because it was incredibly hot while I was in New York. I ended up not taking my Canon gear out of my backpack during the trip and shot almost exclusively with the Fujifilm X100VI, with perhaps maybe 10% of the photos being taken with my Canon G7 X. I was concerned that I was only going to come away with “snapshots” and not the kind of shots you would want to put in your portfolio. instead, I was shocked at the number of truly stunning photos I was able to capture with the Fuji.
Clearly not all of these photos are award-winning portfolio material. I did include some nice snapshot and memory type photos as well. But wow…the X100VI really does continue to impress. I’ve never taken better photos in New York City. But I must also acknowledge that my skills as a photographer have seriously grown in the last 12 years since I was last in New York.
The trip itself was a good one, and as you can tell from the photos, I covered a lot of ground and saw a lot in about three days. So my New York City itch has been scratched. At least for now. There are other places…other cities that I need to see in this lifetime. Some that will be return visits, but others for the first time. I look forward to the adventure and opportunity of what is yet to come.
