I recently acquired the DJI Mini 5 Pro – against all logic and reason. Fortunately, I was able to get the Fly More combo – so not a lot of accessories are really needed. But I recently tried out one and I’m very glad I did – but not for the reasons you might think. I’m talking about the FPVtosky RC2 Cover. As the name suggests, it’s a cover that’s designed for the DJI RC2.
The PVtosky RC2 Cover comes in two different versions. The stand alone cover for $14.23 and the RC2 Cover. Bundle for $24.69, which comes with a few other accessories like a neck strap. I have the Mini 3 and have used it for years without a neck strap so I opted for the stand alone version. Installation was fairly simple, but the way the cover form fits on to the remote, you’ll think it’s going to snap while installing – it won’t. Keep pushing. Once in place it’s nice and tight. I’ve yet to actually insert the included fastening screws because it’s so tight and form fitting.  I probably will put the screws on, but initially I wasn’t sure how often I’d want to remove the cover. So far I haven’t felt the need.
Right away, let me dispel the notion that this cover will be an effective sun shade on a bright, sunny day. The problem is that the anemic 700 nits of brightness on the RC2 just can’t overpower the ambient midday light. It might help with screen glare reduction (which can also usually be eliminated by just turning your body) but the cover doesn’t create enough shade to block out ambient sunlight. Your mileage may vary, but I still need to be completely standing in shade or sitting in my car to effectively use the RC2 in bight sunlight.
PVtosky RC2 Cover does do quite nicely is protect RC2. In my opinion, you’ll still want to use a good screen protector to ensure the RC2 screen doesn’t pick up scratches – I use the CYNOVA DJI RC2 Screen Protector with Auto Alignment Kit. But for true protection from significant impact (like dropping the RC2) the PVtosky RC2 Cover will do a much better job. It will also protect the entire top area of the RC2 – not just the screen. Â
Perhaps my favorite benefit from using the PVtosky RC2 Cover is I no longer have to remove and re-install the two controller flight sticks. The PVtosky RC2 Cover effectively covers them. I was always afraid those thin little flight sticks could easy snap and leave the threaded end in place. So I always unscrewed them and then reinstalled them before every flight. I loooove not having to do that thanks to this cover. Best of all, the RC2 with the PVtosky RC2 Cover installed still fits nicely in the Fly More combo accessory carry case. This was one of the reasons why I didn’t immediate install the included fastening screws – I wasn’t sure it would still fit in the carry case with the cover on, but it still fits perfectly.
If you can catch them on sale, you can pick up both the PVtosky RC2 Cover and the CYNOVA DJI RC2 Screen Protector with Auto Alignment Kit for not much over twenty bucks. Well worth the investment for the peace of mind they provide.Â
