I’ve always been a fan of blue fragrances, particularly during the warmer summer months. But finding a fragrance that I enjoy wearing during the fall, winter, and spring has proven surprisingly challenging. That may have changed with Ralph Lauren’s Polo 67 Extreme.
I first encountered Polo 67 Extreme, introduced earlier this year, at a Ralph Lauren factory outlet store I frequent in Cincinnati, Ohio. Having previously purchased and enjoyed the original Polo 67 Eau de Toilette, I was naturally curious about this newer interpretation of the fragrance. The original Polo 67 had already impressed me with something I rarely experience from an eau de toilette: remarkable staying power. In fact, it was the first EDT I’d ever worn that I could still detect on my skin the following morning. The scent profile was pleasant, although my wife didn’t particularly care for it. I now tend to wear it during the non-summer months, but not consistently—perhaps once or twice a week.
Polo 67 Extreme (an Eau de Parfum, or “EDP”) takes that impressive foundation and builds upon it in three important ways for me. First, it offers a more elegant, sophisticated interpretation of the original fragrance’s sweet, fruity, and woody character. Second, its performance is nothing short of extraordinary. Finally, the scent itself is downright addictive. I really, really like it. It’s something I could easily wear every day without growing tired of it. I’ve worn quite a few men’s fragrances over the years, and Polo 67 Extreme has delivered more impressive longevity and projection than anything else I’ve tried. Yet despite the Extreme name, it isn’t an obnoxiously loud fragrance that announces your arrival from across the room. That said, I think you’ll want to exercise some restraint when applying it. With many fragrances, I strategically apply four or five sprays to different areas of my body. With Polo 67 Extreme, just two strategically placed sprays are more than sufficient.
Polo 67 Extreme offers something I’ve long wanted from a men’s cologne: a scent that I genuinely enjoy, that’s versatile enough for nearly any occasion, and that I can actually smell on myself throughout the day. And best of all? My wife really likes it!
The retail price of the 4.2-ounce bottle is $135.00. I waited all summer for a 30% off frequent customer coupon from my local Ralph Lauren outlet, and my patience was finally rewarded. Just as summer was coming to an end, I was able to pick up the new fragrance for about $100.00. And I like it so much that a Polo 67 Extreme gift set is already going on my Christmas list.
